| bikes for the gambia: sue and tim have been working on a project in the gambia for the past three years. their approach is one of understanding and they are conscious of their actions. through having spent time in bakary sambouya with local people, hard work, dedication and contacts in the uk, they have raised enough money to complete the building of a school, train teachers, provide a daily meal and sponsor the school's continuing development. they have also provided the villagers with a community bus, which is used to take women to market to sell their produce and as transport to the local hospital. it made sense to follow the ‘think global, act local’ mantra and support this small project through auctioning the bikes from the library and donating the money to providing bikes for the people of bakary sambouya. there are now two bikes being used by students in the village to get to college, this way there are more bikes being used in glasgow and the bike library is working on a bigger scale, providing opportunities for others worlwide. for more information please contact:scurrant@hotmail.com This is to be placed next to the blackboard image in the bottom on the right hand side. |
