From the earth to the seed to the fruit to the harvest to the children to play to the tree to the fire to the ashes to the earth to the seed.
Beth Hamer

At present, we as human beings and members of the global natural community have a responsibility. From the earth to the seed to the fruit to the harvest to the children to play to the tree to the fire to the ashes to the earth to the seed is a series of three works created to demonstrate potentials in the movement forward to sustaining our environments for future generations.

Food Security, the strengthening of Communities, time for rest, reflection and play are all key aspects to enjoying and progressively making change in the immediate future with long lasting and practical solutions.

Play
At this time with rising Oil prices, increasing food prices and a rising global population the fundamental recourses that we have become dependant on are now threatened. Although, the prospect of what kind of world our children’s children may experience is daunting, the essence of making wise decision can only be achieved through response not reaction.

“We can’t solve problems by using the same thinking that we used to create them.” Albert Einstein.

'Play' invited the villagers of Fyske to take part in a community picnic in a small woodland on the edge of the village. Through discussion and design, young and old, we created a swing that is specific to the site. The woodland overlooks the Handanger Fjord, and the distant Glaciers, providing the perfect context to witness changing landscapes in one life-time.  The text ‘now’ is inscribed into the swing, reminding the viewer of the present. The work highlights the importance of enjoyment, rest and reflection, inviting a conscious and mindful passage into the future, for both our elders and generations to come.

From the earth to the seed to the fruit to the harvest to the children to play to the tree to the fire to the ashes to the earth to the seed is also linked with a communities in Gambia and England, creating the awareness that we are all faced with these issues and we can all enjoy these solutions.
