'Already from the very beginning, when I was invited to participate in the Bluss-event, I knew that it would pose numerous difficulties and previously unexperienced challenges. Within a timespan of two weeks, seven artists, with seven entirely different practises were to make and co-curate an exhibition covering a large area of some of the most beautiful and majestic outdoors in the whole of Norway, in the heart of the norwegian fjords.

BLUSS - eit LysSTREIF på Fykse gathered 7 international artists at Barselgrad in the village of Fykse on the west coast of Norway for a two-week period in order to develop and create a temporary work based on light and the local landscape. The result was presented on the 19. April, when a regional audience of 350 attended an artistic light-walk throughout Fykse. That same evening, local contributors - Hardangermeny, Gamlastovo gardsrestaurant and Bygdalarm offered a varied program of food, film, lecture, music and much more. Over 450 people attended the wider Streif arrangement. Bluss facilitated interactions between old landscapes and new art; between artists and the local community; between the public and Hardanger.

Among the projects that can be seen on this web site are:
'Speed.Infinity.Proof.' by Trond Nicholas Perry - after "finding a great big log" the artist constructed a sculpture which he would physically power and maintain to keep the light shining and the smoke thick, while ranting an improvised monologue into the night. Will Foster and Sille Storihle present 'Folk frå Fykse' which saw the faces of the local community projected on the outside of the homes they live in using a 'porta-projector'. 'Fruit' was one of three projects by Beth Hamer which resulted in the planting of a community apple orchard. This project shifted the very notion of a temporary art event by focusing on the potential for a sustainable and long lasting intervention rooted within the vibrant fykse community.

During the development and production of Bluss an environmental criteria was set in place in order to promote green alternatives, create awareness and to reduce where possible the carbon footprint of the project. To find out more click here.
