Clapping, Glasgow, 2004, I asked a group of 10 people to clap for 7 minutes. This performance started out as an extension of audience behaviour but then quickly moves towards a durational piece.
Children Clapping is a continuation of this video performance. I wanted to create rigmorolish, site sympathic actions to lead to a dialogue about audience. Questioning the audience roles through space or action, giving the audience / performers the opportunity of redefining their roles. The audience are asked or cajoled into participating in the actions. The tasks that I ask of the audience / performers could be an extension of audience behaviour or intersecting the performance spaces.
