Boatent

During a residency at Grizedale Arts, Cumbria I worked with local boat builder Richard Pearce to make a small sailing boat/shelter. This was inspired partly by the local tales of Arthur Ransome, and by the writings of Villem Flusser, the design theorist.
His ideas on failed design such as the umbrella - which becomes useless when it is most needed due of high winds – made me consider a boat & tent hybrid which would be perfect on campsites in heavy rain, no matter how wet the ground. Equally, if the wind should get too strong whilst sailing, the sail could be taken down to provide shelter in the form of a tent.
