Glasgow International 111 Saltmarket, Glasgow, Scotland April-May 2005

A project in which I encouraged re-interpretation of Saltmarket, an area in Glasgow city centre under re-development. Through an on-going process of collaboration with specific individuals and the local community, I recorded a variety of views of this unique site. This was an attempt to play with ideas and theories about our inhabitation of space in attempt to demystify the processes of redevelopment and urban regeneration by empowering individuals to discuss, fantasize and realize their own environments. ‘Shop’ existed as a series of conversations, investigations and propositions, edited and presented within a multifunctional social space.

‘The Salt Market- Refers to the street which runs south from Glasgow cross towards the river Clyde. A popular place to live for early 18th Century Glaswegian merchants, it was formely known as the Waulcergait and was associated with fullers (scourers of wollen cloth.’

Glasgowguide, 1986 31

SHOP 111 was supported by SEAM, Glasgow International and Scottish Arts Council.
