An exploration into all things portable, temporary and mobile.
This exhibition brought together artworks created within the Royal Edinburgh Hospital (developed over a three month residency) and documentation of projects by national and international artists. Throughout the Link gallery there are a selection of projects by artists, artists groups and initiatives that specifically invited to contribute to their documentation to this exhibition. These projects delve into issues of portability, temporality and alternative public territories.
The aim was to show projects are diverse in intent, concept, function and design. Prior to the exhibition a series of workshops were conducted that looked at ways of mobilizing objects, spaces and facilities throughout the hospital. From these workshops various projects materialised, some as ideas and small-scale models and others as public events such as ‘The Wee Ceilidh Tour’, a collaborative project with Stewart Murray.
The Wee Ceilidh Tour:
‘Wearing our ‘Murray of Athol’ temporary tartan, we sited our custom made lime green transportable Ceilidh stage in the horticulture grounds to make a space to dance in the sun with members of the hospital community. Half way through the Ceilidh, we packed up the stage and proceeded to Morningside where we set up again and resumed the dance, this time with passers by.’
